With this being my tenth children’s book, I wanted to do something special with it. A sort of “10th Anniversary” thing. So, since I was in the midst of cartoonifying my book sponsors, I figured I’d go ahead and make myself into a character as well.
Most books have a bunch of throwaway pages. You know, like the copyright and title page in the beginning that everyone just skips passed. As you’ll see in the images above and below, I wanted to make those pages a part of the actual book.
The very first page (above) quickly identifies me as an author and illustrator, but also the main character in the book. It shows my previous books and (hopefully) entices my readers with a hook that this “will be the most bonkers book” they’ve ever read.
The next page (below) is the copyright page, but as the story continues the inciting event begins to take place. What’s that event? Easy. That I start to fall asleep! After all, there can’t be a nightmare, if I’m wide awake. 😉
